As Above, So Below. As Within, So Without

Updated: May 30

I snapped this photo on the shore of Lake Daniells on a recent tramping trip.

What do you see?

Is this a sunset or an early dawn? Which is sky and which is water? Where is the convergence between the two?

Reflections & Mirrors

The outer world of our reality often reflects the inner landscape of our thoughts and perceptions. And our internal world of emotions and beliefs is mirrored back to us from the external 3D world.

For the month of May, I've had an overwhelming need and desire to focus my attention on home:

  • Book car for a very overdue wheel alignment (get back to inner alignment)

  • Clean car and house windows (gain clarity)

  • Clean inside cabinets (declutter the mind)

  • Get bids to replace property fencing (tighten up boundaries)

  • Obtain quotes to retrofit double glaze my windows to make my home warm and comfortable for winter (cultivating inner warmth)

As I was sharing my home industriousness with a friend, she pointed out that I was taking physical action on the things moving through my inner landscape.

Yes, it was time. After navigating a very chaotic 15 months – two trips to Egypt, a trip to the States to see family, separation and moving homes, finishing my shamanic memoir and graduating with my doctorate degree, and most recently co-facilitating the two-week Shamanic Breathwork SHIP container – my body said ‘enough’. It was begging me to slow down. To take a big in-breath, a long out-breath, and pause.

I’d been needing to pause for so long. And finally the time arrived where I had no big, lingering commitments – and I could slow down enough to listen to my body and give it what it wanted: stillness, rest, quiet, sleep.

Giving myself enough time to slow down and allow for reflection. Enough time to look at my external and internal environment and see what was lighting me up and what needed to be put to rest.

And there it all was: Pause enough to get clarity on what’s important. Do the things to come back into alignment (a lot of nature walks!). Tighten my personal boundaries And most importantly, cultivate inner warmth, in my inner heart-home space and my physical home.

After a month of tending to home projects and really slowing down, I'm sleeping better, feeling clearer, and slowly allowing the sparks of creativity to emerge again.

I'm excited to embark upon the longer, dark nights of winter: to rest without guilt, to be not constantly doing. Allowing for cozy nights by the fire, a Netflix binge or two, and connections with friends. To float in the waters, to be, to return to simplicity.

What’s moving through you as we begin our journey through winter? What is being mirrored to you from your external environment? What is your inner heart-home whispering to you?
