Inner Child Work

This is my inner child altar.
Earlier this year, when I attended a woman’s retreat, we were asked to bring a photo of our younger selves as there’d be a bit of inner child work we’d be doing. I went through my photos and found all of these from age two through seven.
When we do healing work, we often encounter inner child wounds. These wounds often run the show from our subconscious. Actively working with our inner child allows us to consciously bring wounds and feelings to the surface to be processed.
We start learning how to parent our inner child, giving to the aspects of ourselves what was not given by our parents or caretakers. This process is both potent and powerful.
I’ve been doing a lot of inner child healing this year. My separation and divorce have activated many old wounds. Having this altar helps guide me back to the innocence, joy, and playfulness of my childhood.
In shamanic breathwork, through conscious connected breathing and shamanic journeying, we can often access these parts of ourselves and begin the healing journey towards wholeness.
